So far 2010 is a good year for the German music business. After 28 years we were able to win the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) again.
In case you're not familiar with this event, here's a brief overview:
The ESC is an annual musical competition held among the singers, composers and songwriters of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The first ESC took place in 1956 and was broadcasted every year since then. It is one of the most watched tv events in the world with more viewers than Super Bowl (125M vs. 106M).
Every country is allowed to send one contestant to the ESC final. In every country one of the television stations has the job to find the singer and song they want to send. Normally they do some sort of pre- or casting-show in which the people can vote for their favorite candidate.
The final show takes about 3 hours. During the first 2 hours every country can present its song and in the third hour each country is allowed to vote for the songs (except their own). The final vote is made up of the results of a national jury and the viewer votes. Each candidate can get up to 12 points. The winner country is allowed to host the final in the following year.
But to cut a long story short: We won! And here's our winning title Satellite by Lena:
