My oh my, how #irrelevant you are celebrities ...

Tom Cruise and J-Lo made a desperate attempt to be relevant last night at the #MTVMovieAwards. Normally, this isn't something I'd choose to cover here, but since the awards were quite hopping last night on twitter ...  how could I not comment?!

(Per NY Daily News): Tom Cruise brought some tropic thunder to the MTV Movie Awards.

The 47-year-old actor reprised his role as Len Grossman, the hairy foul-mouthed Hollywood producer from "Tropic Thunder," Sunday night as part of a rollicking hip hop performance alongside Jennifer Lopez.

Cruise sported some gold-tinged sneakers and a tuxedo as he busted a move to Ludacris' "Get Back.”

The "Knight and Day" star was uncharacteristically lewd as he let loose in character with a series of crotch grabs and high kicks.

Following Cruise's hoppin' solo routine, J-Lo entered the stage wearing a sparkly silver go-go costume while singing her 2005 hit "Get Right."

The duo cut a rug with some complex choreography topped off by Lopez giving Mr. Katie Holmes a spank on his rump.

Cruise concluded the stars' energetic bump-and-grind routine with some sloppy splits.

Seated in the front row for the performance, Holmes loudly cheered on her husband and the pop diva.

Okay ... does NO one get this anymore?!?! The entire paradigm of celebrity has shifted!!! Back in the golden days of TV, you had this pretty little box ... sitting in your living room ... where little people told you what to do, and you happily obliged. After all, the big studios and wonderful people of OZ told you that they were important, and you needed to listen to them.

So you did ... because you had no other option.

Then came this little thing called YouTube. Where they let ANYONE broadcast. And that was cool at first ... however, the people were a little weird, and there was no way this was going to take over and become mainstream. YouTube was like your deepest darkest nerdy little secret. We would only email 1 out of the 100,000 videos we watched, because we were ashamed to admit that we secretly spent all of Saturday night watching old re-runs of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Then came the social media revolution. Where all of the sudden we could share the funny videos we were watching at a faster rate. Wow, that near instant gratification felt GREAT! Seeing the comments on your Myspace and Facebook page of "wow, you're sooo funny! thanks for posting this" somehow validated your ego that yes - this find was indeed FANTASTIC! So sharing continued ... and continued ... and in came twitter ... and now you could sync all your accounts ... and ... and ... and ... now people were listening to you, and YOU became the person saying "check this out, and here is why." It's reclamation!!! We took our power back!! It's always been there, but the people in the little tiny box told us that they were way cooler, and they could totally make someone a star! Dude, WE ARE THE STAR MAKERS!!

(Greyson Chance ... anyone ... anyone?!)

WHOOOO CARREESSSSSSSS about J-Lo and Tommy tom tom?!? We only followed them in the first place because human beings are natural voyeurs and we had no one else to watch. We didn't have our Facebook newsfeed, or Twitter. We didn't really know what people were thinking - we could only assume. Now however, the WORLD has changed, and somehow celebrities seem WAYYYY less cooler!!!!

Even look at Ashton! The king of Twitter ... His movie, Killers, looked CRAPTASTIC!!!!! The poster was rechid, the movie looked GOD AWFUL, like a dumbed down, way less hotter version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And yet, you wanted us to pay $12 in a recession to see said piece of crap?! ARE YOU KIDDING?!?! King of social media or not, studios WAKE UP!!!! We can have quality content at the push of a button!! Don't get me wrong, I still ADORE going to the movies, and am all about supporting the few remaining celebrities I deem relevant, however put them in GOOD MOVIES!!!!!

Go back to the drawing board big wig executives. Stop focusing on spending so much money on marketing, and start discovering how much TALENT there is out there, and throw some money at them. Dude, I had $20 left to my name, and I still spent $15 of it on seeing Kick-ass when it came out!!!

Come on man, pull yourself together!!!
