Facebook Privacy Backlash. Excuse me peoples, are you new?

I really don’t understand what is so offensive about the current privacy settings on Facebook. Anything and everything you put on the Internet has the possibility to exist there forever even if protected by “privacy settings” and “passwords”. Where this false sense of security came from confuses me more than the Privacy Settings option under the Account tab (You know it’s there right?).
The Recent Facebook Debacle:
The recent privacy issue has been about Facebook Open Graph. Basically, Facebook linking to other sites to create a personalized experience catering to the digital “you” on your profile. Honestly, I like it. These interconnected sites that lead to digital social interactions with my Facebook friends is what makes the Internet fun. It makes the whole world accessible. Trust me, back in 2005 before the photo tagging, newsfeed, and status updates Facebook was less interesting. It would have died out MySpace style by now if
it didn’t constantly strive to connect its users and promote social interaction.
What about my privacy? Boo Hoo
Bad News:
Facebook is a game and it requires strategy for success. Know your profile content and don’t post stuff that doesn’t show your awesomeness. Stay vigilant Facebooker! If you want to play the game, you have to make some rules…
-Check your privacy settings regularly
-Read the Facebook redesign updates at the top of the page when Facebook makes updates,
-Know who your Facebook friends are (that includes your mom)
-Most importantly DON’T post anything you wouldn’t want ANYONE with Internet access to see.
Good News:
Don’t be bitter, be better.
Facebook is a powerful tool because it is accepted as a legitimate representation of a person. If you don’t like the idea of having an online representation of yourself, you may want to consider burying your head in the sand. This is an opportunity! You have a wonderful way to show new friends and future employers a cohesive portrait of how #UnapologeticallyAwesome you are. This doesn’t mean that you are not awesome in person or that the “real” you doesn’t matter. Your Facebook profile is just supplemental to the person that is you, like vitamins.
If this is the future of Facebook, what do I do with all my Keg Stand pics?
Get used to this idea, the Internet part of you is real. So if you’re not comfortable with yourself, lead some double life, or <3 Nickelback don’t put the incriminating stuffs on Facebook.
As Pete Cashmore of Mashable put it, “Privacy is dead. And social media is holding the smoking gun”. I just got a nice visual of Pete saying that. There were boxer briefs involved. #JustSayin.
