The day Parvo got #OWNED!

#TalkNerdyToMeLover's @JenSquard

Lookey lookey lookey who I'm hanging out with!  Cute right?  I have two boxers, and my little lady had puppies a while back.  Sad story, they all got parvo.  Seriously, WTF?  We started with 9...and ended with 4.  *tear*  The fact that any of them survived is a really big deal.  It was so so so super hard to watch.  For those of you that don't know, Parvo is a terrible virus that attacks rapidly generating cells, generally affecting the stomach and intestines.  It makes them super sick, and since their stomach hurts they won't eat or drink, and since they get such bad diarrhea and vomit they get super dehydrated and die.  Like in 24-36 hours, a lot of times.  The virus is transmitted from dog to dog, and it can live in direct sunlight for years, or be carried in a dog for years without activating.  SUCK.

Treatment = awful.  The vet bills are killer, and they generally want to hospitalize them.  Um, no.  So I got to give sub-cutaneous fluids twice a day (not entirely easy on tiny squirmen wermans), dextrose five times a day, five to seven small meals a day, and total clean-up and bleaching twice a day.  A 1000 ml fluid bag costs a measly $80, and it only lasts about 3 days.  Not easy on any of us.

Anywhoozle, I am an AMAZING animal nurse (seriously, mad skills), so my round the clock care saved some lives!  We ended up with four little stinkers, and only have two left to sell.  But...I might try talking the hubbard into keeping this one.  I just love his little lips, makes me want to kiss him right on the mouth!

Parvo - you suck nards.  I won, beeeyotch!
