It could be because of his history with relationships, insecurities he has about himself, or because of specific reasons related to you. Whatever the case may be, listen to the reason why he says he’s not ready before reacting.
I had a lot of trouble in my 20s understanding certain social cues. (I wasn’t diagnosed as having autism until earlier this year.) I would give people the benefit of the doubt or lean on “my feelings” to justify the actions of others.

I wrote this post originally in my 20s. Sometimes I’ll update the posts with commentary from a 30 something year old … and sometimes I’m a purist and want to leave posts as they are. Either way, yes, I did lose my virginity in a cheap motel to a boy I met in a pool hall. Maestro … I finished high school early, and was planning on moving out to NYC. I was going to be studying at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in Manhattan, and the parentals were gracious enough to help out with an apartment one minute from the school. Yep, I had my own apartment at 17 in Manhattan. Kinda rad … but either way, I had this odd irrational fear that by being a virgin and officially “living on my own” – I would do something stupid … or boys would be able to smell that I was a virgin and it would be weird. I’m not kidding. I thought people could “smell” that you were a virgin. I’m sure I even justified said irrational fear by saying that well technically speaking, the sweat your body secretes when you have anxiety over a situation you’ve never been in before …. blah blah blah. I assure you, I probably at the time had a very valid reason for thinking this – hahahaaha I was killer in debate, and loved researching weird shit online. I never dated in high school. Like at all. Like anyone. Like ever. Well, Joshie and I kinda dated twice – but he didn’t want anything serious until he had his license and frankly at that point, I was already done with school. But yeah – either way, I had no one on my radar screen. My best friend and I followed a bit of the alternative crowd, so we used to go to some pretty dodgey places – one of them being this pool hall on the Berlin Turnpike. We were always on the look out for boys, and thought the boys in Berlin were uber hotties. Anyway, April 2001, we get to the pool hall, scope around – TOTALLY on the prowl … not necessarily thinking about looking for a guy to take my virginity, but just our normal Friday night hunt. I walk over to this one table, and see these two boys; one of them in particular is just wow, unbelievable, jaw droppingly beautiful. Super dark hair, light eyes, pale skin – I mean wow. Could to this day TOTALLY pass as Pete Cashmore’s brother or cousin. They seemed a bit lost in their own world so after 5 minutes of batting my big blue eyes I thought, well, I’m not getting any younger here … and stroll up to their pool table. At the time, I was a newbie to playing pool – and very literally didn’t even know how to hold the pool stick. With my best practice audition for a porno, I sashay on over and say

#Talk Nerdy To Me™‘s @StaffWriter A quick Google search will bring you face-to-face with an endless confusion of online dating tips for women. It’s hard to know what to believe and which tips to apply. That’s why, in this article, you’ll read 7 online dating tips for women … that actually work. 1) Don’t Get Too Personal Before Meeting in Person The goal of online dating is to create a connection and eventually meet in person. To do that, you need the man’s attention. You can easily get his attention by sharing your stories with him; however, this is not the best way to go about it. Sharing personal information may make you feel vulnerable which scares off some guys because they are unsure how to handle these feelings. Instead of coming across as intense, focus on the conversations at hand. Avoid overwhelming him with too much detail at once. You can always discuss more about yourself later when you’re more comfortable around each other. Getting to know someone is all about showing interest without getting too personal too soon. 2) Be Honest in Your Photos and Bio Honesty really is the best policy. Any potential match will eventually find out the truth anyway. Being upfront about your expectations is better than being judged for it. Many women are selective with their pictures to make themselves look much younger or at least thinner. You can also touch up your photos or remove one that didn’t turn out the way you wanted. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good in your photographs, do so responsibly and without misleading others. 3) Be Positive in Your Bio Your profile bio should also focus on what kind of relationship you want instead of explaining why nobody wants you which will come across as too desperate. If possible, keep your profile short and simple because nobody enjoys reading long-winded bios full of negativity. You’ll get much better results by keeping your bio positive. Talk about what you want, not what you don’t want. Definitely don’t use the bio as a platform to vent all of your bad dating experiences to date. 4) Utilize Social Networks Although this isn’t something you should do only for online dating, it’s still worth mentioning. You can utilize your social networks to find out more about the guy before agreeing to an in-person meeting. Search his name on Google, Facebook, or Twitter using keywords like “dating,” “online” or anything related to your conversation with him. If he has no problem sharing details of his life on these platforms, odds are that he will not mind if you search for him there, too. You may find out something that disqualifies him in your mind. Better to find out before meeting than ten dates into a budding relationship. Do due diligence before the first date. 5) Match With People at Your Same or Close Attraction Level All of us want to date better-looking people. We often see ourselves with rose-colored
<EditorsNote> One of the many very very cool things about being autistic is that we write things out. It’s a huge part of my mental health actually – I need to write. There are over 7,500 blog posts (from Talk Nerdy To Me, Lover) that have now been trimmed to a “best of” Talk Nerdy To Me™. If you’re new, welcome!! These origin stories are a part of how I found out I’m autistic and have a neurological condition called Synesthesia. It was QUITE the journey getting here!!! Have a laugh … or a cry … or both. Much love!! xo Jen </EditorsNote> Last Friday, I went to the local watering hole with my best friend (who happens to be gay, a guy, and not into anything tech), and somewhere near the end of our first glass of wine, I referenced a gif I had sent to a guy on Bumble, “let me show it to you,” I said grabbing my phone. As I pulled up Bumble, I quickly realized I couldn’t find the conversation. “Oh, I said laughing, he clearly googled me and unmatched.” “Why would someone unmatch with you?” he asked confused. “I fully disclose in my profile that I’m a writer and that I have the blog. Some men get weirded out by it.” “Why do you need to fully disclose your blog to people?” I took a moment, and thought about it, before responding with “you’re right! I’ve spent my entire ‘career’ disclosing that information because my website and myself were one in the same. It’s been (almost) a decade, and one full lifetime later. So, why am I still doing this?” I immediately deleted my entire profile (and also took down my TedX picture) and changed my profile to this … The results were immediate, and on Monday, I texted him my findings … As I was texting him, I got YET ANOTHER text from YET ANOTHER date … I’m a sapiosexual, so leading with “just” my looks was the LAST thing on my mind. I’m a hot chick, why the fuck did I not think of leading with that!!! Who knew dating could be so easy??? Well done, Friel. You’re for once not over thinking things. Now, onto the post … The more honest I’ve been able to be with myself, the more that I realized I never actually made dating a priority. I made dating a business yes, but a priority no. When I reread texts or (even worst) posts, I noticed a pattern in starting them off with … “I thought I was going to meet this guy, and then I had this work thing come up …” If I really want what I say I want, this should be the only coming I’m focused on … The seizure I had back in September was such a blessing in disguise; it forced me to face my own mortality, which then lead to a stronger focus on what my intentions are. I want a family, and to make that

Having nothing else to do on a Saturday night I found myself catching up on some of Jen’s older posts, specifically about her past dates and relationship. I guess I found myself doing this as I have been recently hanging out (yes…just hangin’) with a specimen of the female variety which I thought may lead to some type of relationship, which in the end didn’t (but more on this later).
