#Journalist Nerd Under The Microscope: Elizabeth Rosselle
#TalkNerdyToMeLover’s Awesome Applesauce: Charles Quevedo
I used to frequent LiveVideo a few years back. Among one of my favorite people on that site was Elizabeth Rosselle (@musicwiretv on Twitter) whose video chat room I used to moderate. I simply called her, “Liz”. She was this tall female with short blonde hair and big cat-like eyes — simply beautiful! With a sexy voice and great personality, I was immediately smitten by her the first time I chatted with her. We became friends very quickly. Then one day, Elizabeth just suddenly disappeared from my life (let’s just say that I was very sad for a long time after that). A few months ago, she and I were reunited through the Internet by a mutual friend, @JenFriel, and although I haven’t met Elizabeth in person yet, I consider her a very good friend. “Talk Nerdy To Me Lover” was lucky enough to do the following Q&A (Questions & Answers) interview with this very sexy and awesome lady.
Q: Where were you raised?
A: Walnut Creek/Lafayette, California (just outside of San Francisco).
Q: What ethnicity are you?
A: Caucasian (I ususally don’t answer that question).
Q: What does your family consist of?
A: My little angel (younger sister), Carey Rosselle, and my beautiful half-sister, Gwynneth Rosselle MacKenzie. My Mom is my best friend in the whole wide world and my Dad is my idol. My Grandma (on my Mom’s side) is the only grandparent that’s still around and she and I are very close. My family is pretty rad.
Q: What is your profession?
A: Ha! My profession? What’s that?? I’m a freelance journalist and I work for various publications, mostly in the field of entertainment. I’m also an entrepreneur. I have my own website: www.musicwire.tv It’s an all music based media and it’s pretty awesome. In addition to the site and the freelance work; I just launched a line of jewelry that can be found at Fred Segal, in Santa Monica (in the “Rocks and Silks” section), and also at the shop, Native, in Beachwood Canyon. The line is called, “Rosselle” (my last name) and I’m expanding the line into handbags and more high-end pieces. You’ll soon be able to find the line at other popular boutiques throughout the Los Angeles area and hopefully throughout the country. Every piece is handcrafted on the island of Bali, Indonesia, and a little bit of Bali (and a whole lot of love) goes into each piece. 🙂 I travel to Bali, myself, to oversee the manufacturing and to ensure that the artists assembling the line are not being exploited. In other words, it’s all sweat shop free and a portion of the sales will go to a very worthy cause that I will seek out on my next trip to the island. Oh, and I DJ from time to time, as well.
Q: Favorite websites you visit on a daily basis?
A: Facebook, Musicwire TV, Twitter, and Talk Nerdy To Me Lover.
Q: Favorite music? Favorite band/singer?
A: Oh, my gosh, where to begin! I’m kind of an indie rock kinda girl but I like a little bit of everything. I’ve been listening to a lot of Tom Waits and John Lee Hooker lately (LOL), but that’s old school. Okay, here’s my list:
The Black Keys, The Village Green, The White Stripes, The Bravery, Lykke Li, Bullet & Snowfox, Karen Williams, Dilana, The Presets, Wolfmother, The Cure, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, A Tribe Called Quest, Woo Tang Clan, Erykah Badu, Massive Attack, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, Rolling Stones, Bjork, Ministry, Thievery Corporation, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Echo & The Bunnymen, KMFDM, Parliament, Nick Cave, Mozart, Debussy, Bach, Beethoven, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Morcheeba, The New Pornographers, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Tones on Tail, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The Clash, Bob Marley, DJ Shadow, The Pet Shop Boys, Ramstein, Black Sabbath, The Beastie Boys, Joy Division, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, The Velvet Underground, Queens of the Stone Age, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Patsy Cline, Sade, Rancid, Thelonious Monk, Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Led Zepplin, Sisters of Mercy, Dire Straits, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, INXS, Muse, Julian Casablancas, Thorn York, Talvin Singh, The Orb, Prince, and Madonna.
I was a goth/punk/rocker chick in high school if you can’t tell by my music selection. I also played classical piano for years and years, piano and clarinet in the jazz band in high school. A bit of the guitar. I also DJ, so my taste in music is pretty much all over the place.
Q: Favorite Book?
A: “Naked” (by David Sedaris). And the “Tao Te Ching” (by Lao Tzu).
Q: Favorite film?
A: That is SO dependent on my mood. It’s a toss up between “Requiem for a Dream”, “Lost Highway”, and “The Jerk”.
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: “The Flight of the Conchords”.
Q: How do you keep in shape? Do you go to a gym on a regular basis?
A: I run almost every day. I swim, do yoga (love Bikram), hike, etc. I hate the gym.
Q: What hobbies do you have?
A: DJ-ing, running, swimming, drawing, hiking, shopping, traveling, writing, painting, decorating. Umm, yeah.
Q: Favorite words of inspiration?
A: “You’re always only one thought away from having a good (or bad) day.”
Q: Do you have a philosophy in life?
A: I have many. I’d say my number one rule of thumb, though, is simple: “do what makes you happy.”
Q: What makes you smile?
A: So many things. I smile alot. Good music, happy people, sunny days, rainy days, tropical thunderstorms, tropical islands, a good cocktail, new shoes, my beautiful family, my fabulous friends, falling in love, falling in lust, my very blessed and wonderful life.
Q: What makes you sad?
A: When I’m not doing things that makes me happy (which is almost never). Or seeing my friends suffer (definitely bums me out).
Q: What is your biggest “pet peeve” (something that irritates you the most)?
A: Dishonest and fake people, people-pleasers who don’t stay true to their word, greediness.
Q: What is the most embarrassing thing that you’ve done?
A: I was busted in 2nd or 3rd Grade for drawing a picture of a whale with a giant penis. The title of the picture: “Moby’s Dick”. My parents were called into the Principal’s Office with me and asked where I was learning this stuff. I think i was pretty embarrassed when it all went down. My Mom and Dad have both admitted that they were having a hard time not breaking into hysterical fits of laughter.
Q: What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on?
A: My website.
Q: Do you go out a lot … or do you usually stay home?
A: My “job” requires me to go out all of the time and I do enjoy it, but one of my favorite pastimes also happens to be sitting on the couch.
Q: Do you ever get recognized out in public (from the job you do)?
A: Yes.
Q: Are you into politics?
A: Sort of.
Q: If you were “President of the United States”, what would you change?
A: I wouldn’t want that job. Bush made a pretty big mess. Wouldn’t even know where to begin.
Q: If you could have any super-power, which one would you choose?
A: An invisible eye (that works, of course) in the back of my head. Is that a super-power?
Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Tall. Ummm, and blonde.
Q: Any charities that you support and passionate about?
A: The Special Olympics … and just being charitable (in general).
Q: Do you consider yourself “sexy”?
A: Sure.
Q: “Nerdy” is the NEW “sexy”. What qualities make you “nerdy”?
A: All my qualities make me nerdy.
Q: Any websites/links you shamelessly want to plug?
