#NerdsUnite: Ask That Nerdy Chick ... (should I stay or should I go?)

It is my goal for 2012 to take a lot of my weird and wonky experiences as a lifecaster and help nerdy dudes out by providing a frank (not shirley) and honest answer to some weird and potentially random questions you may have about life. ::deep breath:: Here we go!

Here's an email I just got ...

Perhaps some background first.  Five months ago I had my heart and spirit crushed into a fine, fine powder by someone I loved A LOT and I thought they loved me too.  Well their love turned out to be a lie.  It's been a difficult 5 months.  The defensive walls have gone up and life has been a lot less bearable since then.  I endure because I must, but mostly because I feel I don't really have any other choice.  So I've been going through the motions.  Work, home, food, sleep, repeat.  I tried to do the whole dating site thing, but choices around here are pretty slim(read as: nerd in hick country).  If I'm also completely honest with myself, I wasn't/am not ready to move on anyway even though it's been 5 months.  Recently, I decided to reorganize some things of mine.  In other words, I'm finally getting rid of or putting away everything that reminds me of her.  During this process, I discovered that I still have her guitar that I put away in my storage unit back when she moved out of her old place while we were together.  Today I contacted her to work out some way of getting it back to her.  I texted her saying I didn't want to talk and I just wanted to know a day and time I could get it back to her without seeing her in the process.  So this brought up a lot of feelings that I pushed way deep down a while back.

Knowing all that and that I still live in the same general area that she does, I've recently gotten an opportunity to get a better job where I currently work.  Now I don't really want to stay here, but I find that opportunities like this one aren't really jumping at me left and right.  So here's the part where I'm asking for advice.

Do I stay in this area (that reminds me of nothing but this failed relationship and with what I believe are very small chances of finding someone else) JUST to make a decent living monetarily?

OR

Follow my gut and turn the chance at the offer down and continue looking for another way out of this place?

Insight or advice is welcome.

Wow, heavy stuff here. Okey dokey, first up - thanks for reaching out!! And thanks for being brave enough to put yourself out there.

Secondly, you can't chase money in life. Following your passion will feed your soul even if it can't feed your belly. I didn't chase money when it came to the webspace and launching my own company ... fuck no. I just found things that interested me and that motivated me to keep going - which is how it has survived. It seems to me like it's time to move on. It's going to be hard, but that driving force telling you to explore some place else is something you HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO listen to. That's your gut, babe. That's that "little voice" in the back of our head that knows everything. It is our job to LISTEN TO IT!!! Of COURSE it'll scare you, of COURSE you'll have extreme anxiety and feel uncomfortable - but only good things can come from that place. Being reminded of the past, and particularly of heartbreak isn't healthy ... you have to move on, and sometimes that means even physically.

Explore some options outside of your town. GUARANTEE you when you start down that path you will find something and it will not only reward you monetarily, but fulfill you in ways your current town isn't.

Life is too short to not be lived and loved in every moment. Getting over a heartbreak CERTAINLY isn't easy, but establishing yourself in a nurturing and loving environment where newness can grow is imperative.

Godspeed nerderino, and pleaassseeeeee keep us posted!!!

Got a question? Drop me an email! JenFriel at TalkNerdyToMeLover dot com

ORRRRR you can message me on Facebook (which btw I take longer to respond to. Please please please just email me. Way easier for me to star it and get back to ya!) and if it's within 140 characters on the twitter!

Best of luck out there nerds!!

xoxo <3 @JenFriel
